Code4CD is a civic tech program that is committed to make the Congolese government work for the people who need it most by providing different technology tools that enable the latter getting accountable to citizens.   Our mission is to the make Congolese government work in the digital age and help citizens getting necessary information they want from their government. Our value is open public information for social development.   We also use our tech talents to increase transparency between government and citizens in many issues like democracy, economy, healthcare, sports, etc.   Gov Partnerships in  deploying sustainable open source infrastructure that genuinely empowers citizens through open data.   In order to empower citizens through open data by the deployment of sustainable open source infrastructure, CodeForCongo is convinced that its deployment cannot be effective if the government is put outside of the issue. That’s why we are committed to work closely with the government as it’s the only which can provide right public information that can be useful and verified public data both for the whole Congolese scientific world and other citizen social layers from urban to rural world.

What we do

  • We build for and with citizens.Engaging citizens in our work is central to our theory of change. Strong democracies rely on trust between citizens and government, and we believe that organizing the public to actively participate in improving bureaucracy and service delivery is the most productive way to build sustainable change in the public sector. We also support government and civil society to develop the capacity to effectively collaborate with the public.

  • We improve government and civil society, not politics.CodeForCongo’s work focuses on opening and innovating the implementation of policy and the delivery of public services, through the administration and bureaucracy of governments and civil society. While we recognize the import of political reform and policy advocacy to the success of our work, we have purposely narrowed our focus to the areas where citizens are most likely to come into contact with government.

  • We operate in public. We promote openness in our work and in the work of our civil society/government partners. All of our digital tools are open source. We actively encourage documentation, sharing, collaboration, and reuse of all of our tools, programs, and processes.
  • We help build an ecosystem.Whenever possible we reuse existing tools, standards and platforms, encouraging integration and extension. We operate as a global community, leveraging each other’s knowledge and resources, because all of our work is better if we are connected.

DATALab So, we plan setting up our DataLab; a data center where  Data encoders, civic tech practitioners, journalists and government can collaborate and walk in for help and share space to build projects useful for Congolese citizens.
